AusVELS – Australian Curriculum in Victoria

At Dandenong North PS we understand that every child is unique, bringing to school a range of experiences. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that the curriculum be adaptive and modified to cater for the individual’s needs and abilities of every student.

AusVELS is the Australian Curriculum documentation currently used in Victoria. This curriculum and assessment framework was implemented in 2013 in all Victorian Government schools from Prep to Year 10 – replacing the VELS documentation that was used prior to this. AusVELS uses a new eleven level structure which reflects the design of the Australian Curriculum whilst retaining the Victorian priorities and approaches to teaching and learning. Currently, English, Mathematics, Science and History are the first four Australian Curriculum subjects that have been implemented since 2013.Over a period of time the Australian Curriculum will be progressively developed, with further curriculum areas introduced.

Our teachers access The AusVELS Curriculum as a guide for whole school curriculum planning and it outlines a set of standards, which schools use to assess student progress and provide a clear basis for reporting to parents.
